The most common way to buy watercolors is either in small tubes or in trays of solid paint called pans. Pans, which are only activated when touched with a wet brush, are great for their portability. As the amount of pigment you can take each time is limited, it's a bit more difficult to paint largescale projects, but each pan will go a long way. Watercolor wash brushes are useful for laying in large areas of paint or water, for wetting a painting surface, and for absorbing excess paint or water. Made from either natural or synthetic fibers, wash brushes are primarily used with watercolor paints. WHSmith Watercolour Paint Brushes (Pack of 6) £7.99 + £20.95 postage. METHOD:
Step One:
Using white and a brush, paint a muzzle outline and fill in. Using Bright yellow, paint with a brush the outline of the lion face, then fill in with yellow using a sponge.
Step Two:
Using light brown and a brush outline the ears and create fur by ‘flicking’ round the side of the face and on the ‘tuft’.
Extra stage – With brown on a sponge drag and blend from the outside of the face inwards.
Step Three:
Using black and a brush to outline the face, paint a small black nose (I did and upside-down triangle), a line from the nose to the top of the lip, whiskers, and dots on the muzzle.
Tip – Make sure you hold the child’s head gently to avoid them moving and either ruining what you have done or the brush going in the eyes/nose or mouth!Don’t be precise, have fun with it!

Step Three:
With a fine brush outline with black, add the tufts in-between the ears, some whiskers, dots under the nose and teeth.
Tip – practice the teeth and heart nose on your hand first, this is a good way to check if you have the right consistency of paint and not too much water.
Use any colours for this face as long as you have a black and white, you could change the ear colour to blue or purple? And maybe the nose to black or pink? You don’t need to outline everything!
Keep your working area clean, I always have a small towel on my table, also make sure hands are clean!
